Day 5 - Proofs, Pancakes, and Parliament

Greetings from Budapest!

Today, we had a math class in the morning. This was the first time we had math in the morning and it was because we would have a tour of the House of Parliament this afternoon. Today's topic in the math class was also very interesting, which was mathematical induction. It is a method to prove problems which have infinitely many possibilities or situations and are hard to prove directly.

After the class, we went back to the hotel and then set off to begin our tour to the Parliament.
We first went to a small pancake restaurant in Buda for lunch. There were many kinds of pancakes, and each of us had at least two pancakes.

After the delicious lunch, we took the tram to the chain link bridge and then walked across the river. It was extremely cold and there was a lot of floating ice on the river. After crossing the bridge, we took the tram again to the Parliament building.

We got there before 3:00 PM, and began the tour at three. The House of Parliament is really big and intricate and the most impressive things are the statues of 15 Hungarian kings and a queen surrounding the crown in the main dome.

The tour only took about 40 minutes, and then we headed back to the hotel. We rested and some of us did our homework which is due tomorrow. The seven of us went to Száréves Étterem, which is the oldest restaurant in Pest. We enjoyed live music, savored the rich flavors of Hungarian cuisine, and rounded off the meal with a delicious chocolate soufflé.

We will have a free Sunday tomorrow and we are all excited for it. We are ready to explore the city and try more food! Some of us may go to one of the city's many outdoor baths with Professor Berliner and Catherine tomorrow!
Goodnight and best wishes,
Eric E, Eric S, Will, Zhifei
