Today,
though wonderful, was mixed with a small hint of melancholy, as we enjoyed our
last day of Hungarian lessons from our superb teacher, Erika. After we finished
learning enormous numbers and the formation of direct objects, we thanked her
with a very beautiful (Hungarian: nagyon
szép) bouquet of flowers and a lovely little note, signed by all of us. As
we broke off for an extended lunch period: some of us enjoyed large bowls of
ramen soup at Ramenka; others took a visit to the House of Terrors; some decided
to enjoy fancy cakes at the Alexandra Bookshop; still others explored the top
of St. Stephen’s Basilica to take in the beauty of Budapest from above.
The remainder of the afternoon was spent
learning about modular arithmetic, which proved
to be quite excellent for a number of
factors. After class, we were ready
for a relaxing, pun-free evening, doing homework and eating dinner at a number
of places: from “Paprika” to “For Sale Pub and Club” (which apparently was not
actually for sale) to “Giant Pancake” (the name speaks for itself). Overall, it
was once again a fantastic day to be in Budapest.
